Simplifying IAL’s business

Insurance Australia Limited ABN 11 000 016 722 (IAL) is taking steps to simplify its insurance business. IAL intends to transfer parts of its retail insurance business underwritten in Victoria under the CGU, Swann and Lumley Special Vehicle brands to Insurance Manufacturers Australia Pty Ltd ABN 93 004 208 084 (IMA) pursuant to a scheme (Scheme) under Division 3A of Part III of the Insurance Act 1973 (Cth).

The parts of IAL’s insurance business impacted by the proposed Scheme are:

  1. CGU Insurance short tail personal lines products sold directly to customers in Victoria, including:

i. Home and Contents policies

ii. Landlords policies

iii. Motor/Motorcycle policies

iv. Niche (Boat and Caravan) policies

  1. Swann Insurance motorcycle policies sold directly to customers in Victoria
  1. Lumley Special Vehicles Insurance motor policies sold directly to customers in Victoria

(Insurance Business).

If the Scheme is approved by the Federal Court of Australia, the insurance policies which form part of the Insurance Business will transfer from IAL to IMA.

What does this mean for customers?

The terms of transferring policies will not change after the transfer, other than IMA becoming the insurer under each transferring policy. There will be no impact on claims and transferring policies continue to operate in the same way.
